Stomp, the United Kingdom’s sensational percussion group is bringing its signature beats to the Fox Theatre!
Stomp is a percussion group that was formed in 1991 in Brighton (United Kingdom) by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas. Its performances consist of everyday objects such as brooms, mops, garbage cans, water fountain containers, Zippo lighters, matchboxes, and all other forms of scraps being used to create physical theater (a genre of theatrical performance that pursues storytelling through primarily physical means). The groups debut performance (after a preview show at the London's Bloomsbury Theatre) took place at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh. It was a huge hit with both the audience and the media, winning the Guardian’s Critic’s Choice award and the Daily Express’ Best of Fringe award. In 1994, Stomp won a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Choreography and it was also nominated in the Best Entertainment category. It’s also won an Obie Award and a Drama Desk Award for Most Unique Theatre Experience. In 2007, the group expanded its cast for a performance (titled Stomp Out Loud) at Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. The group also performed in the closing ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony in London. In November 2016, Stomp will perform at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
